At one point in time in my life I would have said Ice Cream, while it is still high on my list of likes for a treat it no longer holds the top spot. My top spot for a dessert item is now held by nothing, I’ve gone off desserts over the past several years if anything I’ll add an apple or other fruit or veggie my meal of the dessert. So guess you could say an Apple is my fav dessert item though not accurate it fits the bill well enough since i do tend to have one after each meal.

After reading a few people’s blogs who also have PCOS and reading their answers to the list of what research says you will have to deal with if you have PCOS, like other people’s blogs I’m going to write my side of it, I know in many regards I do not have it as bad off as other’s have it, in fact compaired to many I’ve gotten off lightly. So here is my side of the deal as I see it though my own eyes.

Early symptoms of PCOS include:

Few or no menstrual periods. This can range from less than nine menstrual cycles in a year (more than 35 days between cycles) to no menstrual periods. Some women with PCOS have regular periods but are not ovulating every month. This means that their ovaries are not releasing an egg each month.

Well I know when I was a child and my cycles first started I was 7 years old and maybe for the first year they where semi regular, as in every two months or less I’d be getting them and they would be fair heavy, but I didn’t think anything of it. Then the weight gain started and my cycles got less and less till I was lucky to get an hour of bleeding once a year.

Hair loss from the scalp and hair growth (hirsutism) on the face, chest, back, stomach, thumbs, or toes. About 70% of women in the United States with PCOS complain of these hair problems caused by high androgen levels. Acne and oily skin, caused by high androgen levels.

Again this was something that I experianced growing up, at age 13 I found my first white hair on my way to my Jr. High Graduation, not a great thing to find at that age what so ever. Though I am lucky in this area that I only had the hair falling out issue on the top of my head, no hair on my chest to speak of and very little on my back (though that’s now changed or so my husband tells me). I do have hair on my hands, but I can’t remember a time that its never not been there so its never been an issue to me same goes for my toes its always been there so I’ve never paid it any attention. Only hair I am now actually paying attention to is the part that has start to be more noticible on my upper lip, not that is starting to get rather annoying!

Acne and oily skin, caused by high androgen levels.

I have the Acne, but I do not have oily skin and most of the acne I have is on my body not on my face as is common for most people – but I find is more annoying big time when it likes to appear on my breast.

Depression or mood swings. Hormonal changes are a known cause of emotional symptoms.

K I did go though a short period of Depression according to my mom, but we don’t link it to the PCOS but to that abusive relationship I was in for over a year. But the mood swings, well that is another matter, according to my mom I’ve always been moody so she’s not ready to say that its because of the PCOS, though I am sure some of it might well be. I do know that some of my mood swings are do to High Glucose levels or Low Glucose levels going to high or going to low I have found can trigger a swing in my moods big time.

PCOS symptoms that may develop gradually include:

Weight gain or upper body obesity (more around the abdomen than the hips). This is linked to high androgen levels.

Not sure about this in general, as most of my weight is carried in my hip area, I’m more a pear shape then an Apple which is the common look for those with PCOS or so I’ve been told, I’m also close to the Hourglass form as I am the Pear shape (as in I’m only 10 inches different from the width of my shoulder to the width of my hips, and only 5 inches different from my width of my shoulder to the width of my waste.

Male-pattern baldness or thinning hair (alopecia). This is linked to high androgen levels.

As I stated above this is something that I have found happening to me since I entered into my teen years. Though one funny thing once I had my hysterectomy I my head hair started thickening and down below where I was once almost bald started to grow with avengance.

Repeat miscarriages. The cause for this is not known. These miscarriages may be linked to high insulin levels, delayed ovulation, or other problems such as the quality of the egg or how the egg attaches to the uterus.

I’ve only ever had one known miscarriage, there might have been other’s but I only know of one actually taking place.

Inability to become pregnant (infertility). This is because the ovaries are not releasing an egg (not ovulating).

Well I know I will never have a child of my body, and I am 100% alright with that. Its not something that was ever meant to be and since I don’t have the drive to be a mother its something that is alright with me. Being infertile to me is a blessing, it opens up a whole lot of things that I don’t have to worry about, though it does isolate me at times from other women who can’t understand how I can be happy without being a mother.

Symptoms of too much insulin (hyperinsulinemia) and insulin resistance, which can include upper body weight gain and skin changes, such as skin tags or dark, velvety skin patches under the arm, on the neck, or in the groin and genital area.

Well of all the signs listed above I only really have had to deal with the skin tags, they haven’t been that bad and the ones that are most annoying I tend to take care of on my own.

Breathing problems while sleeping (obstructive sleep apnea). This is linked to both obesity and insulin resistance.

As yet this is not something what I have any known issue with, my husband hasn’t mentioned anything about it so as yet I don’t think I have an issue with it.

Pain in the lower abdomen and pelvis (chronic pelvic pain).

I lived with this for close to 5 years, it getting worse and worse and worse with each passing year and nothing my gyn or doc would to do help with the 24/7 pain that I was having to deal with. I finally all came to a stop when I had the hysterectomy in 2008. However in the past year its started up again, and there is no rhyme or reason for it since I do not have a reproductive system in place anymore.

High blood pressure may be more common in women with PCOS, especially if they are very overweight. Your doctor will check your blood pressure.

Well so far so good on this grounds when it comes to what my Endo says with each visit. I still not close to having it if anything my levels are better then my age group and way better then my age group for those with diabetes to start with, so all in all he’s happy with how that side of things are with me.

This is my take on my families old recipe (instead of apple juice and honey which my granny use to use I use water and an extra tsp of sugar and find it doesn’t hurt the taste at all). Makes 8 servings on average, though we’ve been known to get 10 to 12 out of it.

Ingredients
Macintosh Apples, 407 grams (about 4 medium apples cored with peel)
Brown Sugar, 9 tsp unpacked
Granulated Sugar, 12 tsp
Quick Quaker Oatmeal, 86 grams
Water, 3 oz
Pie Shell (Tenderflake-deep dish), 1 shell
Cinnamon, ground, 2 tbsp
Five Roses All Purpose Flour – White, 6 tbsp

Directions
To make the topping, place the oatmeal, flour and brown sugar with cinnamon in a small bowl and mix well. Add the water and stir until the mixture is moist and crumbly, then set aside.

To make the filling, place the sugar, flour and cinnamon in a medium bowl and stir in the rest of the water.

Get the apples and chop into thin slices, leave the skin do not peel the skin off, you louse the fiber which helps to make this dish a little healthier.

As you slice the apple up toss the pieces into the medium mixing bowl and once all have been added to the bowl work it with your hands to make sure you cover all the slices with the filling material (remember to wash your hands before doing this).

Once the apple slices have been well coated spread the filling (the apple mixture) around the crust (as evenly as possible – going for the circle method allows for you to build up the filling without leaving to many gaps).

Get the topping and sprinkle/pour over the top of the pie making sure to coat as evenly as possible and cover all exposed apples.

Set oven to 400F and once to temp place pie into the oven and bake for 15 minutes. After 15 minutes reduce heat to 375F and back for another 15 minutes. At the 15 minute mark check the topping if it is browning place tinfoil over top and make for another 15 minutes if its still light brown cook for another 15 minutes keeping watch on the topping so it doesn’t burn. You are waiting for the filling to bubble a little that is when you know its fully backed.

Pull pie from oven and let cool for about 30 minutes .. serve warm or at room temp.

1. Do you have “your” side of the bed? Which side?
Yes we have his and her side of the bed in general, my side is the left side of the bed

2. How old is your pillow and what condition is it in?
I have no idea how old my pillow is, but its in good condition (not falling apart and still firm)

3. What is your favorite position to sleep in?
On my side – but no preferance for which side as I toss and turn between them as my body makes me do so … but I do like spooning with N as much as possible

4. How often do you change your sheets?
Every other week for the primary sheets and once a month for the secondary

5. What helps you fall asleep when insomnia strikes?
Apple Cider has one of those effects on me that says slllllleeeeepppp just a few sips of it and well my brain is ready to go to bed if not by body at the same time.

6. Does sex make you sleepy or energized?
Depends on the type of sex taking place and when its happening as to if it does one or the other

7. What is the minimum amount of sleep that you need to be functional the next day.
I can function to a small degree on 2 or 3 hours of sleep, but it wont be for the full day by any means – Id be good for about 6 or so hours of work then I’d start making mistakes and having other issues going on.

well have spent a good potion of the day with Norman going though a new wedding book called weddingstar – its a catalog of wedding items #

well the weddingstar site is a little complicated to go though, but in general its not bad – its already given us an idea that might work #

evening mmol 12.5 …. and no idea what it was when I woke up cause I never got a chance to take it, and still keep getting distracted #

looking at wedding invite ideas – still need to plan out how I wont to make them look! #

sighs all the info I keep seeing says that things need to be dun 6 to 12 months in advance – and I have just 4 months before my wedding! #

evening mmol 17.1 … morning mmol 11.1 #

yes I am still going though wedding info online, and yes I’m collecting as much info as I can on the subject, plus bookmarking sites #

sighs 130 bucks for a marriage licance that is only good for 3 months, so it means we have to apply for it sometime in february 2009 #

So many things to do to get the wedding together – yet so little time to do it all it does feel – expecally when most take a year to plan! #

kicks those who think you have to have a wedding ring that is pricy! what crap!!! give me a simple wedding ring that works well for me #

WTF is it with telling brides to be that they need “exercise regimen that will help you to lose weight, increase muscle tone and get fit” #

evening mmol 14.2 … bed time mmol 21.1 … morning mmol 9.5 … ohkay 21 not a good number – thinks it was the insulin I took 3hr before #

if this much planning is needed for a simple wedding, how the world do ppl do it for a large more involved one! #

going through the P90X first DVD, looks interesting – though some of it just doesn’t seem right for me, will see as time goes on what goes #

got the wedding rings ordered – 800 bucks total for the two of them! .. and got the cake in the planning stages (thee layer, 9″, 8″, 6″) #

the cake is good to server from 20 to 25 ppl there abouts at an average of a 2 inch slice or so we’re told, and should go well with the buft #

Well after oh so many years, I have finally gotten my very first iPod, yes you heard right me a die hard Apple fan has finally gotten her first iPod. Ya took me long enough ta get it, and its a Black iPod Classic 80GB, wanted the 160GB but sold out and no date for new shipments on file.

Folks wondered why I didn’t wont the new Nano, and I’m like hello to blasted small not to mention not enough HD space to put anything on, K there is but for what I have the 80GB is not close enough to big enough to put all my files from iTunes on it (PodCasts, Vids and Music), which I guess is saying something about my collection (anyone for almost 200GB worth of mp3 files? ouch).

I actually wonder when an iPod that has a tarra drive will be made, K 500GB would be a nice start, but a Tara dive iPod would be a nice deal I do think (well they have them out as standard HDs so I assume that they will be able do minturize them soon enough for an iPod).

Well take care everyone,

Hmmm well it does appear that there is a new iPod on the market, and it comes in at $89.00 Canadian, which is a prity good deal since well the orginal shuffle was just over 100.00 bucks.

I actually might get the new one while I wait to get the iPod Video (its comeing down in price slowly it does appear), though like everything I might not since well I am not a fan of the shuffle to start with (don’t like the random factor that much, but hay it might be a good option for my work outs).

Aperture is also apparently being offered for a 30 day free trial to anyone who wishes to download it and take it for a test drive. This is good news for dad, since I know he’s interested in that application (me i’m not sure if its of interest to me or not – since I don’t really know much about it, since its not aimed at graphic designers but Photographers).

The iSight is also coming down in price which does mean that I should be able to get it shortly, which means my podcasts might shortly be online (have a few already with my old mic, but lets put it this way ummm they sound terable).

Well take care everyone

Well yesterday was a LONG day it did feel, managed to get to sleep about 3 in the morning even though I went up to sleep about 2 it just wouldn’t come. Had to be up by 8 to get out of the house to go to a conference up near the airport with dad. Talk about operating of a bit of sleep deprivation, not fun at all.

Anyhow, yesterday was not bad calorie ways managed to take in 1,625 calories all told, which is good when all is said and dun and most of it was taken in around supper time – chuckles. For the first time in 5 years I actually had more then 1.5 oz of red meat … and of course paid the price for having 8 oz of the stuff, oh well it was tasty while it lasted and while I was eating it, i don’t regret eating it but at least I do know that my red meat allergy is still in full placement that its not really a sensitivity but a true allergy … sighs/growls.

Well as to the conference, attended a few presentations of which only two where of any interest to me and of which those two where actually helpful with the information they gave. One was a Photojournalism deal, which was presented by a Photojournalist from the Toronto Star, he spoke about his field and what not and all in all he was very informative since well he’s been in the field just over 20 years now.

The other interesting seminar was put on by Apple, for those who are interested in using iMovie, iDVD, iPhoto and of course the use of GarageBand within those deals. I actually have reopened iMovie and am playing around with it, chuckles. I haven’t played around with it since I had my old comp mostly because my old comp wasn’t fast enough to run iMovie with any great speed or the like as in freaking slow and so NOT great for working with it. But ack my new comp flies with iMovie so I might shortly have a movie posted here that I produced (or not still have to figure out what am going to do with it).

While at the conference dad and I ended up splitting a ham and cheese bun because the prices for food there was freaking high as in the bun we had cost just over 6 bucks for a single onion bun with ham and cheese on it – so NOT good at all.

Well thats it for now everyone, take care
